BJBIE Attends Student Leadership University’s Closing Ceremony in Washington, DC – July 21, 2011

July 25, 2011 11:24:51

An important and much-respected partner of BJBIE’s work in the United States has been the charismatic Dr. Jay Strack, who runs the hugely successful Student Leadership University. Student Leadership University (SLU) is a premiere national leadership program that combines seminars on leadership and character, with professional visits, service programs, and educational entertainment like visiting museums and monuments around Washington, DC. The SLU program runs across the US, and has expanded to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

On Thursday, July, 21st the BJBIE staff invited “Dr. Jay” to the US branch to discuss potential partnerships and ways to engage Chinese students with the mission of SLU. Specifically, we spoke about students from China participating in leadership conferences and educational tours across the U.S., and students from the U.S. visiting cities and provinces in China to establish real connections with students and professionals that will shape the next stage of the US-China relationship.

After a productive and informative meeting, the BJBIE staff in Washington, DC was invited to the closing ceremony and dinner for the 2011 Student Leadership University at the world-renowned National Press Club. After five days of inspirational lectures, meetings with Congressional staff, and tours across Washington, DC, SLU students were able to ask questions to conference leaders regarding pressing issues facing the next generation of leaders. The meetings and events were a huge success, and we look forward to working with Dr. Jay to increase the opportunities for Chinese and American students to interact with, and learn from, each other.
